Additional notes
- Product cleaning – All products must be free of residue and thoroughly cleaned before being recycled.
- Flattening/compacting – Reduce the volume of containers (bottles, boxes) to optimize collection space.
- Check the recycling symbol – Check the material identification code (e.g., ♻ with a number) to ensure items are placed in the correct bin.
- No federal standard – There is no federal standard for the colors of household recycling bins. Most municipalities use blue for recycling and gray or green for regular trash, but each local authority can do as it pleases.
- Single-Stream – The most common model. The recycling bin (usually blue or green) collects all recyclable materials together.
- Compliance with local regulations – Follow the guidelines of your municipality or waste management authority, which may vary by region.
